LOL YouTube

youtube dislike button

YouTube finally figured out that people are assholes and will harass others for fun, even though it’s been true forever. Yay YouTube!

Apparently, groups of users are targeting a video’s dislike button to drive up the count. Turning it into something like a game with a visible scoreboard. And it’s usually just because they don’t like the creator or what they stand for. That’s a big problem when half of YouTube’s mission is to give everyone a voice.

And the other half is to collect ad revenue. Which is the actual concern here.

The sad reality of YouTube and other online services is they all exist for harassment. These platforms would die without the constant cycle of outrage, downvoting and trolling. No one cares about content creation or “having a voice” anymore. It’s all about controversy and negativity. That’s what keeps the money rolling in. And yeah, that’s fucking sad. But it’s what we’ve become as a society. We basically orgasm on hatred and the misfortune of others.

Hey, kudos to YouTube for hiding the hate count and showing what trained dogs people are. It’s not going to matter in the end, though.
